Heading to cooler climate

We drove through the Texas panhandle toward Colorado and man, things really are bigger in Texas.  As we rolled through Amarillo, I sang some George Strait because that’s what you do when you’re rolling through Amarillo!

We experienced our first thunderstorm in the rig and it was a doozy.  Josey had no issues but we took it slow and steady. Some folks out there like to play in the downpour.

We happily crossed into New Mexico while it was just sprinkling and drove past a cool looking volcano 🌋 at Caupulin National Monument. It likely blew its top a long time ago because you can hike right into the caldera.  Next time!

We loved going over Raton Pass ~ there’s a cute little RV park at the top at 7800 feet.  That cool air felt so refreshing, we opened the windows and relished it!

Tonight we stay at Lathrop State Park!

  1. I’m sure you bypassed Lubbock on this particular leg, but the next time you’re in the panhandle, the proper panhandle song is Mac Davis’ “Happiness is Lubbock Texas in the Rearview Mirror”.

And when you’re down a little south of I-20, Bangs, TX, provides a fun way to get your William Hung fix. :)
